Meaning: Heart, Daughter of the sea
Origin: Latin, Celtic
Reason for Choosing: It’s amazing! It’s flourishy and wonderful and it has so many nicknames! Like Delia, Cora, Cory, Del, Lia and Cordy/Cordi. Also, both meanings are great. Heart has great connotations, reminiscent of love and life. And daughter of the sea is poetic and beautiful. It’s also Latin, which is my second favourite name origin after Greek. And it is the name of Cordelia Chase, my co-favourite of Xander’s girlfriends on Buffy (tied with Anya – who is awesome). (side note, also, spoilers. I’m warning you now. I was angry about that little romance thingamajig between Xander and Willow. Because it ruined him and Cordy and Will and Oz! And they were awesome! And happy. Until stupid hormones ruined it all…) Cordelia is also very Shakespearean. And I do love me some Shakespeare. (Except for Romeo and Juliet – other than the names, I despise that one. It’s so common.)
